Junior Web Developer – Freelancer, On Contract
Position Summary
The Webmaster is responsible for maintaining and updating all company websites to ensure they are current, functional, secure, and aligned with the organization’s goals. This role involves ongoing website optimization, troubleshooting, and implementing improvements to enhance user experience, performance, and accessibility.
This is a work from home opportunity, and candidates must have their own home offices, fully equipped with access to a reliable internet connection throughout their working hours.
Ashton Education supports a network of education organizations. This position will require you to work on projects across our network.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing and implementing new features and functionality
- Establishing and guiding the website’s architecture
- Maintain and update company websites (content, plugins, themes, etc.) regularly.
- Ensure all websites are fully functional, responsive, and optimized for speed
- Troubleshoot and fix website errors, broken links, and performance issues.
- Monitor website analytics and performance to recommend and implement improvements.
- Work closely with marketing and content teams to upload new material in a timely manner.
- Implement security best practices and coordinate with hosting providers when necessary.
- Perform regular backups and ensure recovery plans are in place.
- Stay informed about web technology trends and apply relevant updates.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as a webmaster, web administrator, or similar role
- Proficiency in content management systems (e.g., WordPress)
- Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and SEO best practices
- Familiarity with web hosting environments and domain management
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Good understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery
- Good analytical skills
- Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications
- Experience designing and developing responsive design websites
- Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
- Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
- Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages
- Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial
Requirements
- Home office, fully equipped

- 5+ years of experience is preferable
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Being located in the Pacific Time Zone is an asset.
Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
