ABOUT THE ROLE
We are a growing Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) company seeking a skilled PCB Rework Technician to join our Manufacturing and Quality team. In this role, you will perform precise electronic rework and repair on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to ensure compliance with customer specifications, internal quality standards, and IPC industry requirements. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position in a quality-driven production environment where your craftsmanship directly impacts product reliability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Rework & Repair
- Perform component removal, replacement, and reinstallation on PCB assemblies using approved rework techniques and equipment
- Execute soldering and desoldering of through-hole and surface-mount components, including fine-pitch and BGA devices (where qualified)
- Repair solder defects identified through AOI, X-ray, functional testing, or visual inspection
- Modify PCB assemblies per approved Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and rework instructions
Quality & Compliance
- Follow documented rework instructions, SOPs, and work orders with precision and consistency
- Ensure all rework activities conform to IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 standards and internal quality requirements
- Maintain full ESD compliance at all times in the work area
- Document all rework actions including component traceability, defect resolution, and material usage
Inspection & Verification
- Perform all rework and visual inspection under microscope, including verification of solder joint integrity, polarity, orientation, and component placement throughout the process
- Support quality and engineering teams during root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action activities
Equipment & Collaboration
- Properly operate and maintain rework stations, hot air systems, soldering irons, microscopes, and related tooling
- Identify and report equipment maintenance needs to prevent production disruption
- Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve assembly issues and drive continuous improvement
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical diploma or college program in electronics preferred)
- 2–5 years of hands-on PCB assembly and rework experience in an electronics manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of SMT and through-hole components and soldering techniques
- Experience working with fine-pitch components and multi-layer PCBs
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and BOMs
- Comfortable performing all rework and inspection tasks under microscope for extended periods
- Solid understanding of ESD protocols and general lab/production safety
Preferred:
- IPC-A-610 CIS or CIT certification
- IPC-7711/7721 Rework, Modification, and Repair certification
- Experience with BGA reballing and X-ray inspection
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems and NCR documentation
