About the Role
As Junior/Intermediate Accountant, you will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end processes, driving process improvements, and mentoring other staff. You will report directly to the Controller.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements
- Perform monthly bank, general ledger, and account reconciliations
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation entries
- Process cost transfers between projects
- Prepare month-end journal entries and accruals
- Support internal control improvements and process efficiencies
- Provide training and mentorship to junior accounting staff
- Cross-train on multiple accounting functions for vacation coverage
- Handle ad-hoc projects and reporting as assigned by the Controller
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (preferred)
- Reliable vehicle as you will be going to different business locations
Experience:
- Accounting: 3 years (preferred)
- Construction industry experience: 3 years (preferred)
Language:
Licence/Certification:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or actively working toward CPA (strongly preferred)
Skills & Competencies:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, complex formulas, data analysis)
- Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume transactions
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Knowledge of Explorer ERP is a significant asset
