ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly motivated Summer Student Employment Program Coordinator who is flexible and works well in a team environment to join our team! Reporting to the Community Service Director, the Summer Student Employment Program Coordinator will be responsible for the introduction of career development, life skills training, and employment opportunities for the youth of Fort McKay ranging from ages 14 to 18. This is a full-time temporary position, based in Fort McKay, AB. Shift: Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide students with work experience, orientation, and safety training.
- Make sure all students follow FMFN employment and safety policies
- Coordinate with the Education Department youth that will be taking summer school courses and having option of working afternoons
- Complete payroll submissions bi-weekly
- Prepare all materials in advance to be used in the fieldwork, which includes ordering supplies.
- Coordinate join ventures with Careers Next Generation
- Arrange transportation for summer students to off reserve employment placements
- Ensure Equipment is working properly
- Monitor, track, and complete all necessary paperwork pertaining to activities/workshops for high school credit purposes.
- Coordinate summer student projects, implement employment & life skills training, and supervise SSEP assistants.
- Complete proposal and report writing and prepare budgets and submit financial reports.
- Facilitate team meetings, training, and personal development as well as individual development.
- Supervise approximately 40 students
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Completed or currently enrolled in post-secondary education, preferably with training in project management or youth programs
- Minimum of 2 years’ related experience
- A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- The ability to speak, read and write Cree and Dene is an asset.
- Experience working in a First Nations community is a definite asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to transport students with a company vehicle.
- A clean driver’s abstract is required
- Must be able to supply a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector
