The Part-Time Supervisor, Support Services & Food Services is responsible for providing operational leadership and oversight of environmental, support, and food service functions within an acute care hospital setting. This role ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality services that support patient care, infection prevention, workplace safety, and overall patient and customer satisfaction.
The Supervisor coordinates day-to-day activities for Support Services and Food Services staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, workload distribution, and adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The incumbent provides direct supervision, coaching, performance management, and ongoing support to frontline employees while fostering a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment.
- Supervise daily operations of Support Services and Food Services departments in an acute care environment.
- Coordinate and monitor staffing assignments, scheduling, attendance management, and shift coverage to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
- Provide leadership, orientation, training, coaching, and performance feedback to staff.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control practices, occupational health and safety standards, sanitation requirements, and organizational policies.
- Monitor food service operations to ensure the safe preparation, handling, distribution, and delivery of meals in accordance with dietary requirements and food safety regulations.
- Oversee environmental and support service activities to maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.
- Conduct routine inspections, audits, and quality assurance activities to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure service excellence.
- Respond promptly to operational issues, patient concerns, service disruptions, and emergency situations, implementing corrective actions as required.
- Collaborate with clinical teams, dietitians, managers, and other stakeholders to support patient-centered care and departmental goals.
- Assist with incident investigations, documentation, policy implementation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor inventory, supplies, equipment, and resource utilization to support operational efficiency and budget objectives.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and customer service excellence.
- Post-secondary education in health care administration, hospitality management, food service management, environmental services, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience in health care, acute care, support services, environmental services, or food services.
- Strong understanding of food safety, infection prevention and control, workplace health and safety, and quality standards.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
- Proficiency with scheduling, reporting, and computerized workplace systems.
- Part-time position requiring flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations as required.
- Work is performed in a hospital acute care environment with frequent interaction with patients, visitors, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Must be able to respond effectively to changing priorities and operational demands in a 24/7 health care setting.
