Resort Facilities & Maintenance Technician — Full-Time (Fixed-Term, with opportunity to extend)
Location: Sunnylea Resort, Port Severn, ON | Job type: Full-time, fixed-term (3-month initial term, with opportunity for extension or permanent employment)
We are seeking a capable, reliable Onsite Resort Maintenance Technician to serve as the primary day-to-day maintenance and operational presence at our resort in Port Severn. This is a hands-on role for an experienced all-rounder who takes pride in keeping a property safe, functional, and guest-ready across all seasons. You will maintain our cabins, buildings, grounds, waterfront, and recreational amenities while providing professional service to guests.
This is a maintenance position, not a management role. Our offsite Property Manager handles bookings, revenue, marketing, and administration, allowing you to focus on the physical operation and upkeep of the property.
Location & availability requirements
Please review these requirements before applying — they are essential to the role:
- Must live within approximately 30 minutes of Port Severn, Ontario (or be willing to relocate). Onsite accommodation may be available.
- Must be available to work weekends, particularly during peak season when guest turnovers and activity are highest.
- Must be available for after-hours and on-call emergency response (e.g., water leaks, power or heating failures, urgent guest issues) while the resort is occupied.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that adjusts with occupancy and seasonal demands, including holidays.
Key responsibilities
- Preventative maintenance and repairs across cabins, buildings, and common areas, including basic carpentry, painting, drywall patching, fixture replacement, and general handyman work.
- Minor plumbing and electrical troubleshooting, escalating larger or specialized work to contractors as needed.
- Inspection and maintenance of resort equipment and facility systems, identifying and addressing issues before they affect guests.
- Grounds and exterior upkeep, including landscaping, waterfront and dock inspections and maintenance, recreational equipment checks, garbage and recycling management, and firewood organization.
- Daily pool testing and water-chemistry monitoring, cleaning, and routine pool maintenance, with accurate logs maintained to Ontario public-pool standards.
- Seasonal opening and closing activities, snow removal, and winterization as required.
- Guest service — responding promptly and courteously to maintenance requests, assisting with operational questions, and acting as a professional onsite representative of the resort.
- Coordinating with and assisting external contractors, and supporting cleaner turnovers on high-occupancy days.
- Emergency response — troubleshooting urgent issues and escalating significant matters to the Property Manager appropriately.
- Maintaining maintenance logs, service records, and an accurate inventory of tools and supplies.
Qualifications & requirements
- Experience in property maintenance, facilities maintenance, resort operations, or hospitality maintenance (or a similar hands-on role).
- Strong handyman skills; carpentry experience preferred.
- Basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical knowledge.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent customer-service and communication skills, with a professional, guest-first approach.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors and around a waterfront environment.
- Physically capable of active work, including lifting up to approximately 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working in seasonal weather.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Pool Operator certification, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, and Pleasure Craft Operator Card are assets (or a willingness to obtain them).
What we offer
- Competitive salary of $50,000 – $60,000 per year, based on experience.
- Onsite accommodation may be available.
- Varied, hands-on work in a well-maintained resort setting.
- A legitimate opportunity for extension or permanent employment based on operational needs and performance.
To apply, please submit your resume along with a brief summary of your relevant maintenance experience and confirmation that you meet the location and availability requirements above.
