The Role
We are hiring a full-time, on-site Materials Testing Technician in Victoria, BC. This role is central to how we support our clients through construction: verifying that soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt meet the standards our designs depend on.
You will split your time between active construction sites across Vancouver Island and our in-house lab, working closely with our geotechnical and civil teams to keep projects moving with accurate, timely testing and clear reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-field materials testing and engineering reviews on active construction sites, including field density testing (nuclear and non-nuclear methods) on compacted fill, subgrade, and roadway materials
- Sample and test concrete, asphalt, and aggregates in accordance with CSA/ASTM standards
- Perform soil, concrete, and asphalt testing in our in-house lab, including Proctor, sieve analysis, moisture content, and Atterberg limits
- Prepare accurate, concise field density and CQA reports using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Work closely with our engineering staff, management team, clients, and contractors
- Travel regularly throughout Greater Victoria and Vancouver Island to support project needs
- Occasional out-of-town, overnight work may be required
- Lift and carry testing equipment and samples weighing approximately 45–50 lbs as part of routine work
- Maintain and calibrate field and lab testing equipment
- Maintain accurate field notes and chain-of-custody documentation
Qualifications
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or another related science/technology field
- Valid BC driver’s licence and clean driving record
- CCIL/ACI Concrete, Asphalt, and Aggregate Certification an asset (or willingness to obtain)
- Nuclear density gauge certification an asset (or willingness to obtain)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with AutoCAD an asset
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A professional, proactive attitude when working with colleagues, clients, and contractors
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and on active construction sites

Compensation
This is an hourly position. The expected pay range is CAD $25.00–$32.00 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.
