The Research Associate will serve as the primary day-to-day research lead for a community-engaged qualitate research project in collaboration with community partners and older adults from equity-deserving populations. Working under the general direction of a principle investigator, the incumbent will independently coordinate and oversee the implementation of the research project from ethics approval through data collection, analysis, knowledge translation and dissemination.
The research associate will be responsible for translating the research protocol into an organized and effective study workflow and will independently manage the day-to-day operational requirements of the project. This will include coordinating research activities across multiple project phases, identifying and resolving barriers to project progress, monitoring timelines and deliverables, and proactively communicating emerging issues to the principal investigator and the research team.
Qualifications
Education:
- PhD or equivalent Advanced Research training in a relevant discipline
Experience:
- minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic, health, community or applied resesarch environment
- Demonstrated experience independently coordinating and implementing qualitative research projects
- Experience training, supervising or providing guidance to research assistants
- Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative research, including experience with focus groups, interviews, photovoice, participatory research or other community engaged research methods
- Demonstrated experience working with equity-deserving populations and an understanding of the social and structural factors that influence health
- Experience preparing research reports, presentations, manuscripts, conference abstracts or other scholarly materials
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Experience supporting the revision and preparation of ethics application materials, study protocols, participant-facing documents, and other research-related materials
- Ability to coordinate the day-to-day activities of a community-based participatory photovoice research project
- Demonstrated ability in supporting participant recruitment, communication, and engagement throughout the study, including coordinating with participants and the research team between sessions and preparing meeting materials and presentations
- Advanced skills in qualitative data management and analysis software and other research-related software and applications
- Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into accessible and meaningful materials for diverse audiences
- Strong understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, and the social and structural factors that influence health, participation, and well-being
- Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant scientific/research principles
- Stong written and verbal communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users, and to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy- Familiarity with University research policies and practices
