We are currently seeking a Civil Design Engineer-In-Training, Transportation to join our Edmonton team. This position is well suited to a motivated individual looking to build practical experience in transportation engineering, urban roadway design, active transportation, and municipal infrastructure projects. The role includes supporting transportation design, preparing traffic impact assessments, coordinating with subconsultants and approval authorities, assisting project managers with client and municipal coordination, and participating in construction administration as needed. What You’ll Do
You will contribute to the delivery of high-quality transportation engineering solutions across the Edmonton region while developing your technical, coordination, and project delivery skills. Duties of this position may include, and are not limited to:
You will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers who provide guidance as you build confidence in design, coordination, and construction administration.
- Supporting the design of engineering aspects of urban roadway projects.
- Completing preliminary and detailed design of active transportation projects, including bike lanes, pathways, and enhanced pedestrian spaces.
- Coordinating with subconsultants, including landscape architects and urban planners, to deliver complete streets designs.
- Completing urban design analysis and detailed design for neighbourhood roadway and alley renewal projects.
- Preparing traffic impact assessments for residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
- Using transportation analysis software such as Synchro Studio, Sidra, and Vistro.
- Completing computer-assisted design duties using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Supporting project managers with assigned project tasks from conceptual design through preliminary engineering to construction completion, while developing technical knowledge and experience and helping deliver work within established timeframes and budgets.
- Assisting with the design of assigned land development transportation projects, including coordination with subconsultants and liaison with City approval authorities as required.
- Providing contract administration for construction projects in the Edmonton region, including close liaison with City inspection staff.
- Coordinating with clients within your scope of work to ensure client needs are fulfilled.
- Assisting with coordination of internal and external resources to support client needs and project delivery.
What You Bring
- A degree in Engineering from a recognized institution, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation engineering.
- Eligibility for registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training, with a path toward professional registration.
- Knowledge of transportation, municipal, and land development engineering design, including related infrastructure such as roads, utilities, and grading.
- Experience with transportation analysis software such as Synchro Studio, Sidra, and Vistro is considered an asset.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Ability to build relationships with new and existing clients.
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills, with a willingness to take initiative and grow into increasing responsibility.
- Experience working with design teams, clients, and approval agencies.
- Proposal writing and business development experience is considered an asset.
