A tech interested in delivering quality workmanship and wanting to do so much more than production work. Every boat we work on is different - every project is unique. You have experience in fiberglass and gelcoat repairs, having worked in the automotive or aircraft industries.
3+ years would be a start, even better in the marine industry. You are interested in mold-construction, hull extensions, and hard tops. You have transferable skills that we can work with to upgrade to yacht-finish levels. We believe in growing the skillsets of our techs as they are our greatest asset. This can be a career, not just another job.
The tasks involved:
- Prepare , mix, colour-match, apply & complete gelcoat repairs & on new components - involving cleaning, sanding, taping, masking, spraying as needed
- Repair of fiberglass using appropriate products and industry guidelines
- Remove hardware and equipment to facilitate access to repair areas, then reinstall hardware after completion of repair work
- Construct molds
- Build and install components - seating, bbq stations, hard tops, hull extensions
- Fair components and repairs
- Coordinate with and assist other trades
- Manage time to meet scheduled timelines
- Clean up your stuff
Skills
- Familiar with using vinylester/polyester and epoxy resins
- Knowledge of laminating schedules and repair techniques
- Physically able to work on yachts - different levels, small spaces, odd angles
- Familiar with removal and reinstallation of hardware and equipment
- Able to use hand and power tools - must have basic tools of the trade
- Comfortable working at heights and over water
- Capable of following instructions whether verbal or written
- Able to work with others - same or different trades, sub-contractors, people in general - or be ok on your own once you have been with us a while
- A need to feel pride in your work
- Have basic computer skills - email, internet, etc
- Asset - colour-match gelcoat
- Asset - a valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Asset - cross-over skills to other trades
