Geotechnical EIT I

Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Role Overview
As Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) I, you will play a strategic role in supporting ground stability and safe mining operations. Reporting to the Geotechnical Superintendent, you will be responsible for implementing and managing key aspects of the Ground Control Management Plan. Working closely with geotechnical and operations teams, you will drive continuous improvement in underground safety and ground support practices while contributing to overall mine performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Ground Inspections: Conduct underground mine inspections to assess ground conditions and identify potential risks.
- Ground Support Design: Assist in the design and implementation of secondary ground support systems, including cable bolting.
- Instrumentation Management: Support the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of geotechnical instrumentation.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze geotechnical data and provide recommendations to improve ground control performance.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to the Ground Control Management Plan and applicable safety standards.
What You Bring to the Table
- 0–3 years of experience in mining or geotechnical engineering, with expertise in inspection, analysis, or ground support.
- Proven ability to work effectively in field-based, safety-critical environments.
- Bachelor’s in Mine Engineering or Geological Engineering.
- Eligible for registration with a Professional Engineering Organization (EIT preferred).
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Deswik, Vulcan, or other mining software is an asset.
- Accreditation in Underground Common Core modules is an asset.
- Passion for underground mining safety and geotechnical excellence.

Working Conditions

Pay/Shift Range: $62,250 CAD - $112,150 CAD
