About the Role
At B.I.G., we operate a high-performance field service division supporting industrial clients across Eastern Ontario. Our work spans inspection, repair, and maintenance of overhead cranes and critical lifting equipment.
We are looking for a Maintenance Engineer to take ownership of the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of field service operations for a dedicated team of 5–7 of our skilled technicians.
This role goes beyond traditional coordination—you will be responsible for optimizing how work gets executed in the field, ensuring technical quality, improving reliability, and driving efficiency across a team of skilled technicians.
What You’ll Own
Field Service Execution & Performance
- Own end-to-end delivery of maintenance and repair work (request → planning → execution → close-out)
- Ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and to technical standards
- Monitor job progress and proactively remove bottlenecks
- For large or complex work, coordinate with other member of the Service Team to align resources, prioritize work, and ensure smooth execution.
Planning & Resource Optimization
- Plan and schedule work for a team of technicians
- Optimize technician utilization, travel, and sequencing of jobs
- Balance planned maintenance with urgent service calls
Technical & Engineering Support
- Support troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues
- Assist with defining repair scopes and maintenance strategies
- Review service data to identify recurring issues and failure patterns
Quoting & Coordination
- Prepare and send estimates for inspections and standard repairs
- Follow up on quotes and move approved work into execution quickly
- Escalate more complex scopes when needed
Customer & Project Coordination
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers during service execution
- Communicate timelines, scope changes, and technical considerations clearly
- Ensure a high level of professionalism and trust with clients
Job Close-Out & Documentation
- Ensure jobs are technically complete and ready for billing
- Validate labor, materials, and service documentation
- Maintain accurate records for continuous improvement and reporting
What We’re Looking For
Education & Technical Background
- Degree or diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related) preferred
- OR strong field experience with demonstrated technical and analytical capability
Experience
- Experience in industrial maintenance, field service, or technical operations
- Exposure to scheduling, project coordination, or service delivery is an asset
Core Capabilities
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Clear and confident communication with both technical teams and customers
- High ownership mindset—you take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks
Why This Role is Different
- You are not just coordinating—you are engineering how work gets done
- You will directly influence service quality, efficiency, and customer experience
- You’ll be part of a company actively modernizing its service operations (systems, structure, and processes)
