Many young people face significant barriers when entering the workforce, including challenges related to housing, education, mental health, social connection, and work experience. Access to supportive services and trusted mentors can make a lasting difference in helping youth achieve their goals.
As a Youth Employment Facilitator, you will empower participants to identify their strengths, overcome obstacles, and pursue meaningful employment opportunities. Your work will directly contribute to stronger communities, improved employment outcomes, and brighter futures for those you serve.
Deliver employment-focused services and support that help youth and young adults build skills, confidence, and pathways to sustainable employment.
- Provide employment coaching, assessments, and individualized support for participants experiencing barriers to employment.
- Facilitate engaging seven-week employment skills programs and group-based workshops.
- Deliver presentations on communication skills, critical thinking, interview preparation, résumé development, financial literacy, and workplace safety.
- Support participants in areas including career exploration, goal setting, job search strategies, job retention, and basic needs attainment.
- Develop individualized action plans with achievable goals that support successful labour market attachment.
- Maintain community partnerships with employers, service providers, and referral agencies to support participant success.
- Promote programs through outreach, recruitment, marketing, and participant selection activities.
- Monitor participant progress and provide follow-up support during work placements and employment experiences.
- Complete required reporting, documentation, and outcome tracking to measure participant success.
- Model sensitivity and responsiveness to diverse participant needs, backgrounds, and lived experiences.
- Protect participant confidentiality and maintain professional standards at all times.
- Promote YMCA philanthropy, volunteerism, and community engagement initiatives.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Child and Youth Care, Education, Social Work, Recreation, Human Services, or a related field.
- Minimum two years of experience working directly with vulnerable youth.
- Knowledge of employment readiness, youth engagement, and strengths-based support practices.
- Understanding of culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and participant-centered approaches.
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills.
- Experience supporting individuals facing barriers to education or employment.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and case management skills.
- Computer proficiency and experience using common workplace technologies.
- Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Motivational Interviewing, and Suicide Intervention certifications are considered assets, or willingness to obtain.

- Provide three professional references (e.g., employer, supervisor, colleague, teacher, coach).
- Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search issued within six months of the start date.
- Participate in required YMCA orientation, safety, and compliance training.
- Maintain a valid driver's licence and reliable transportation for program-related activities.
- Obtain and maintain any required certifications relevant to the role.
