Position Summary
The Senior Catering Supervisor is the on‑the‑floor leader who brings events to life — the steady, confident presence ensuring every setup is precise, every service moment flows seamlessly, and every guest feels the impact of exceptional hospitality. This role leads from the heart of the action, directing frontline teams, coordinating with cross‑department partners, and keeping multiple events moving with clarity and composure. A successful Senior Catering Supervisor turns plans into flawless execution, solves challenges in real time, and sets the tone for professionalism and service culture across the team.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
Event Execution
- Lead operational execution across assigned events — coordinating setup, service delivery, and breakdown activities to ensure flawless execution from start to finish
- Review event documentation (BEOs, runsheets, floor plans) in advance and translate operational requirements into clear assignments and timelines for the team
- Manage simultaneous event environments, prioritizing resources and attention based on event stage, complexity, and client sensitivity
- Conduct pre-event team briefings and post-event debriefs, capturing learnings and reinforcing service standards
- Proactively identify operational risks before and during events, escalating where appropriate and resolving where possible
- Strong awareness of events with alcohol; planning bar set up, inventory and execution
Team Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise, direct, and support frontline event staff throughout operational periods — providing real-time guidance, reassignment, coaching and encouragement as needed
- Model the service behaviours and professionalism expected of all team members — setting the tone through actions as much as words
- Support labour deployment decisions during events, adjusting assignments to respond to changing operational conditions
- Provide clear, constructive, and timely feedback to frontline staff, building capability and reinforcing accountability
Cross Departmental Coordination
- Serve as the operational communication point between catering, culinary, AV, and venue operations teams during event execution
- Escalate and resolve discrepancies between event plans and operational reality in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain awareness of other simultaneous events within the venue and coordinate resource sharing where applicable
Service Standards & Guest Experience
- Uphold service standards across all event types, from intimate board meetings to gala dinners for thousands
- Lead in-the-moment service recovery when guest issues arise, empowering the team to resolve challenges at the frontline
- Ensure food safety, allergen protocols, and health & safety, RAM standards are maintained at all times
Qualifications and Education Requirements
The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Hospitality or related field preferred
- 3+ years operational experience in banquet, catering, hotel, or event environments
- Demonstrated floor leadership capability with experience directing frontline teams
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous events or service environments
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and peak demand periods
- Experience supervising teams of 10+ in high-volume event settings
