Position summary
The role of Health and Safety Officer is part-time and is coupled with the role of Communications officer. The role includes managing both the functions of health and safety as well as communications (internal and external) for all business units.
Safety Officer
The Safety Officer is responsible for managing the health and safety functions of the organization. The role is to ensure the company is operating based on the occupational health and safety industry standards, and WorkSafe BC legislative requirements.
Safety Officer Job Responsibilities
- Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
- Plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.
- Plans, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive environmental safety & health programs on premises or at project site locations.
- Provides project management team with guidance on health and safety and confirm project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
- Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
- Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good engineering practices.
- Provides technical support to project managers.
- Participates in team meetings and provides regular on-site project presence.
Communication Officer
The Communication Officer is responsible for managing the internal and external communications of Borrow Enterprises and all business units. The role is the ensure the company's messaging is consistent and engaging.
Duties and responsibilities of the Communications Officer includes:
- Develop and implement effective communication strategies that build both internal staff and stakeholder engagement, brand awareness, and customer satisfaction;
- Plan manage and design, content, and production of all organizational materials such as brochures and newsletters;
- Prepare detailed media activity reports of applicable projects or activities;
- Work with management to generate new ideas for social media content/campaigns to drive communications;
- Plan and manage the content and social media marketing campaigns and website updates on a regular basis;
- Ensue brand consistency in all communications efforts;
- Monitor corporate image frequently and ensure it is in compliance with company brand;
- Draft internal communications newsletter (monthly) and internal email communications containing company projects, health and safety requirements , and any company changes, etc.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety & Health or related discipline preferred
- BSc/BA in public relations, communications or relevant field an asset
- At least 4 years management level safety profession experience
- Proven experience as a communications officer, public relations officer or similar role
- Strong communications ability (oral and written)
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, OSHA, Construction Safety and Industry Standards
Pay: $1,234.00 per hour
