Job Title: Veneer Lead Hand
Job Description
This role leads day-to-day activities in the veneer department, working hands-on with the team to ensure high-quality production, efficient workflow, and on-time completion of work orders. You will support and mentor crew members, oversee material preparation and equipment setup, and help maintain consistent standards in veneer processing and architectural woodworking.
Responsibilities

Organize and coordinate daily tasks for the veneer team to ensure work orders are completed on time and workflow remains steady across all stations.

Work alongside the crew on the production floor, sharing techniques and best practices in veneer processing, cabinetry, and woodwork.

Support and coach new team members, helping them learn to use equipment such as slicers, guillotines, stitchers, and presses safely and effectively.

Provide guidance on challenging layouts and grain matching to achieve high-quality visual and structural results.

Inspect finished pieces for cutting precision, correct adhesive application, and overall quality, and help the team identify and correct issues before products leave the department.

Review upcoming jobs to confirm that appropriate veneer species, adhesives, and tools are prepared in advance, reducing downtime and material waste.

Assist with the setup and smooth operation of veneer slicers, guillotines, stitchers, and presses, performing basic troubleshooting and escalating to maintenance when necessary.

Monitor stock levels of veneer, adhesives, and related materials on the production floor and communicate when reorders are needed to avoid shortages.

Use tape measures and hand tools accurately to verify dimensions, align components, and support precise cutting, sanding, and assembly tasks.

Apply strong practical math and measurement skills to calculate dimensions, material yield, and optimal cutting layouts for production efficiency.

Contribute to sanding, machine operation, cabinetry, carpentry, and other woodwork tasks as required to support overall production.

Lead by example on the floor by promoting safe work practices, clear communication, and a collaborative team environment.
Essential Skills

Hands-on experience in veneer processing or architectural woodworking.

Knowledge of veneer species, grain matching techniques, and pressing/gluing processes.

Experience operating veneer equipment, including slicers, guillotines, stitchers, and presses.

Strong practical math and measurement skills for calculating dimensions and material yield.

Proficiency using tape measures and common hand tools in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

Production, sanding, machine operation, cabinetry, carpentry, or woodwork.

Ability to lead by example and provide day-to-day supervision and guidance on the production floor.

Strong communication skills to mentor team members and coordinate tasks effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Carpentry ticket or equivalent carpentry qualification.

Cabinet making experience, particularly in custom or architectural woodwork environments.

Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial production setting.

Comfort working with a variety of veneer species and decorative wood applications.

Work Environment
The facility is well lit, clean, and organized, with work split between production stations and cabinetmaking areas dedicated to custom work. You will work with veneer-processing equipment such as slicers, guillotines, stitchers, and presses, as well as standard woodworking and cabinetmaking tools. The regular shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule. Safety boots are required, while other personal protective equipment is provided, and the environment supports careful, detailed work in both production and custom woodworking settings.P
