Job Description
We are seeking a motivated Civil Utility Labourer with strong field experience and leadership potential to support—and eventually supervise—utility installation crews. This is a hands-on role involving trenching, conduit installation, and restoration work, while developing the skills required to lead daily site operations safely and efficiently.
This position is based primarily out of Kamloops, BC, with periodic out-of-town work required as projects take place across the province.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with excavation, trench preparation, and underground utility installation (conduit, duct banks, drainage, etc.)
- Perform site setup, material handling, grade checking, and compaction
- Support crew leads with daily coordination and productivity
- Ensure work meets project specifications, drawings, and applicable standards
- Promote safe work practices, including hazard identification and PPE compliance
- Communicate with operators, forepersons, and subcontractors
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized worksite
- Assist with backfilling, compaction, and surface restoration (asphalt, concrete, landscaping)
Supervisory Development Opportunities
- Assist in directing small crews under the guidance of a foreperson
- Learn to interpret drawings, schedules, and work packages
- Support reporting, documentation, and quality control
- Participate in pre-job planning, hazard assessments, and safety meetings
- Grow into a supervisory role based on performance and experience
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience in civil construction or utility installation preferred
- Knowledge of excavation safety and underground utility practices
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (higher class an asset)
- Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
- Leadership mindset with good communication and problem-solving skills

Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime as required
- Weekends as required

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
