About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of park construction projects across Ontario, from award through closeout. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives on managing complex outdoor construction sites — from grading and drainage to planting, hardscape, and site amenities — while coordinating multiple crews, subcontractors, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality public and private park spaces on time and on budget.
Key Responsibilities
● Manage all phases of park construction projects, including site mobilization, earthwork/grading, drainage and irrigation installation, hardscape (paths, plazas, walls), planting, and amenity installation (playgrounds, benches, signage, lighting).
● Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans; track progress against milestones and proactively resolve delays or cost overruns.
● Serve as primary point of contact for clients, municipal agencies, landscape architects, engineers, and inspectors throughout the project lifecycle.
● Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and grading/planting plans to ensure accurate field execution.
● Hire, schedule, and supervise subcontractors and in-house crews; coordinate equipment, materials, and deliveries.
● Ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations, including erosion control, stormwater management, and permitting requirements specific to public park and municipal projects in Ontario.
● Conduct regular site visits and quality inspections to confirm work meets design intent, plant health standards, and safety requirements.
● Enforce jobsite safety programs and ensure compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and company safety standards.
Required Qualifications
● Minimum 5 years of experience as a Project Manager in park construction (municipal, community, or commercial park development).
● Proven ability to read and interpret landscape architectural plans, grading plans, and civil drawings.
● Strong working knowledge of soils, drainage systems, irrigation, hardscape installation, and planting practices.
● Demonstrated success managing project budgets, schedules (e.g., using MS Project or similar), and multi-crew coordination.
● Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience interfacing with landscape architects, city officials, and inspectors.
● Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and jobsite safety planning.
● Proficiency with project management and estimating software (e.g., MS Project, Excel).
● Valid Ontario driver's licence and ability to travel between active job sites.
● Eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, Horticulture, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
● Experience with sustainable design elements common in park projects (bioswales, native plantings, permeable paving, stormwater basins).
Physical Requirements
● Ability to walk active construction sites over uneven and undeveloped terrain in all weather conditions.
● Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs occasionally.
● Ability to travel regularly between project sites and the office.
