We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to lead the financial operations of a growing dealership and service-based business.
This is a confidential search. We are looking for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands dealership operations, and can balance strong financial controls with the flexibility required to support ownership and management.
The successful candidate will oversee all accounting functions, prepare accurate monthly financial reporting, manage day-to-day accounting operations, and coordinate annual reporting requirements with our external accounting firm.
This role includes direct supervision of one accounting assistant and regular interaction with ownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and management reporting packages
- Complete month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Prepare annual working papers and schedules for external accountants
- Manage accounts receivable and collections
- Manage accounts payable and vendor payments
- Process payroll and related government remittances
- Reconcile bank accounts, inventory accounts, floorplan facilities, and manufacturer receivables
- Complete expense reports for a small team
- Monitor cash flow and provide financial analysis to ownership
- Manage inventory accounting and inventory controls
- Reconcile manufacturer incentives, rebates, warranty receivables, and program payments
- Manage floorplan financing reconciliations and reporting
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and business planning
- Develop and improve accounting processes and internal controls
- Supervise and mentor one accounting team member
- Support ownership with special projects, reporting requests, and operational initiatives
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a auto dealership, marine, RV, powersports, heavy equipment, or similar environment
- Proven experience preparing monthly financial statements
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting
- Experience with inventory accounting and floorplan financing
- Experience managing manufacturer receivables, warranty accounting, rebates, and incentive programs
- Strong working knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills and professional judgment
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with ownership and department managers
- Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience using dealership management systems (DMS) such as PBS, Lightspeed, CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, or similar platforms
- Multi-location business experience
- Retail, service, marine, automotive, or equipment dealership experience
- Experience implementing new systems and improving business processes
