Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Safety & Compliance Coordinator to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. Reporting to the Terminal Supervisor, this position is responsible for coordinating the company's safety and compliance programs, supporting driver training and development, monitoring regulatory compliance, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.
The successful candidate will work closely with drivers, dispatch, operations, and management to ensure compliance with Federal and Provincial transportation regulations while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the terminal.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support the company's health and safety and regulatory compliance programs, ensuring adherence to all Federal and Provincial transportation regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
- Deliver onboarding, training, coaching, and ongoing development for new and existing drivers, promoting safe driving practices, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
- Conduct safety meetings, driver evaluations, workplace inspections, compliance audits, and maintain accurate training and compliance records.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, prepare reports, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Monitor driver compliance with Hours of Service (HOS), vehicle inspections, licensing requirements, and other regulatory obligations.
- Collaborate with the Terminal Supervisor, Dispatch, Operations, and Drivers to promote a positive safety culture and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Stay current with changes to transportation legislation and industry best practices, communicating updates and ensuring ongoing compliance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Terminal Supervisor.
What You Bring
- Valid Class 1 Driver's Licence.
- Minimum five years of commercial driving experience, including local, mountain, and Vancouver Island routes.
- Strong knowledge of Federal and Provincial transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS), National Safety Code (NSC), and commercial vehicle safety requirements.
- Experience training, coaching, or mentoring commercial drivers is an asset.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
