The French Education, Programs and Services (FEPS) division provides leadership, coordination, and support in the development of quality French First Language, French Immersion, and Core French curricula, as well as support services and resources for teachers and students from kindergarten to Grade 12. The division also provides opportunities for teachers and students to promote French cultural education. The Bilingual French Immersion Elementary (K-6) Instructional Coach will be responsible for the implementation of effective literacy instruction from Kindergarten to Grade 6, and work with other coaches and leaders to carry out the responsibilities of the Department.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Support teachers in the delivery of the curriculum using best practices in effective French immersion literacy instruction;
- Support the literacy coordinator and curriculum leaders in the planning and implementation of provincial professional learning for teachers from Kindergarten to Grade 6 for French Immersion programs;
- Support teacher growth by conducting model lessons and observing student response to instruction, followed by reflective pre- and post-conferences to analyze impact on student learning;
- Support K–6 teachers to strengthen their literacy instruction, using collaborative coaching cycles and gradual release of responsibility models;
- Support ongoing literacy initiatives, such as le Traitment alphabetique program and the Acadience screener pilot;
- Work in collaboration with the Elementary Literacy Team and curriculum leaders within both the French and English divisions to align literacy instruction;
- Provide principals with clear indicators of effective, curriculum and research-aligned French immersion literacy instruction to guide their school-wide observations;
- Support literacy initiatives by drawing upon quality research, and by the sharing of effective instructional and assessment strategies;
- Take an active leadership role within the school and the coaching team;
- Participate in ongoing professional learning;
- Performing other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must have a degree in Education, preferably at the Masters level;
- Applicants must hold, or be eligible to hold a PEI Teacher's Academic Certificate Level 5 or higher;
- Extensive experience teaching in French Immersion at the elementary level;
- Experience and education in best and current practices in assessment and statistics analysis;
- This is a bilingual position. A Superior level of oral proficiency in English and French is required;
- Excellent written skills in English and French are required.
- Applicants must demonstrate a flexible mindset and work collaboratively with fellow coaches to navigate systemic challenges, co-design of resources, and continuously elevate team-wide coaching outcomes;
- Applicants must have demonstrated leadership capabilities and have excellent communication skills;
- Must have a good previous attendance and work record;
- Successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record check prior to beginning employment.
Other Qualifications:
- Preference may be given to candidates with coaching experience.
- Experience facilitating workshops would be an asset.
- Knowledge of literacy gained through graduate work or additional training would also be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Common European Framework of References (CEFR) for languages would be an asset.
