About the Position:
Reporting to the Senior Labour Market Economist, the Labour Market Economist contributes to the development of labour market intelligence, trends analysis and research for the mining industry, including:
- Research, analysis and dissemination of reliable and credible labour market and HR information
- Labour market information (LMI) and public policy analysis
- Strategic HR planning and workforce management research
- Thought leadership on labour market and HR issues in the mining industry
As a member of the Labour Market Information team, the Labour Market Economist participates in the establishment of the research methodology and approach for the Council.
Responsibilities:
- Leads the development and continuous improvement of MiHR’s econometric models, forecasting tools, and analytical dashboards
- Monitors Canadian and international economic and labour market trends to ensure forecasts and analysis reflect current conditions
- Works with external clients and stakeholders to conduct custom research and produce reports on regional labour market conditions and HR strategies
- Determines appropriate evidence-based research approaches and modelling assumptions to ensure rigour, defensibility, and adherence to recognized academic and industry standards
- Collects and analyzes diverse primary and secondary datasets, addressing data limitations and gaps to produce reliable outputs
- Produces labour market analysis, visualizations, and other public-facing outputs
- Ensures LMI is accurate, relevant, accessible, and communicated effectively through reports, presentations, webinars, and dashboards aligned with the Council’s research priorities
- Maintains and updates MiHR’s databases and other analytical infrastructure
- Applies research ethics principles in statistical and economic analysis, ensuring integrity, transparency, and secure handling of sensitive data, and responsible interpretation of findings
Education / Experience:
- University degree in Economics, preferably at the Master’s level
- 3-5 years’ experience working in a related field
- Experience in labour market analysis and advanced econometric forecasting and modelling
- Programming capability in R (and/or Python) and Excel for analysis and modelling
- Experience in data visualization and dashboard design
- Ability to manage external client relationships and provide custom research in a clear and accessible manner
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to conduct and interpret qualitative and quantitative research
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to present research findings to a wide range of external audiences
- Experience with public policy research and analysis is an asset
- Knowledge of federal government policy, immigration, and Indigenous workforce issues is an asset
Schedule:
- 7.5 hour work day
- Monday-Friday
- Ability to participate in a hybrid working model with a blend of time working in office and working from home is preferred

Pay: $70,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
