Role Overview
Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician, reporting to the Fleet Manager, is responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing a fleet including waste disposal on highway trucks, passenger vehicles, and equipment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective maintenance of the vehicles and equipment.
- Perform vehicle inspections, repairs and preventative maintenance on all company vehicles as required.
- Provide insight on the set up of shop facility to provide more efficient service to our fleet.
- Thoroughly complete work orders to support internally tracking maintenance and parts inventories in accordance with company, provincial and federal requirements.
- Perform diagnostics & repair to engine and associated systems, emissions systems, drive systems, brake systems, electrical systems, steering and suspension, HVAC, Body systems, hydraulics, and air systems.
- Ability to learn and operate computer-based maintenance software. Microsoft operating systems software proficiency considered an asset.
- Required to maintain a clean, efficient and safe workplace.
- Maintain company provided tools and equipment.
- Always follow company safety guidelines and requirements.
- Follow and administer a scheduled maintenance program as outlined by the company.
- Other duties as directed by the Area Fleet Manager.
Qualifications
- Certified Heavy Equipment Journey Person is a must
- Experience with waste disposal trucks and equipment considered an asset.
- Experience with hydraulic systems considered an asset.
- Class 5 driver’s license required
- Class 1 or 3 license with air brake considered an asset with a pay premium for license and clean driver’s abstract.
- Ability to carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting Pay: From $47.00 per hour + Incentives
Incentives Available:
- Annual Tool Allowance: $1,500.00
- Boot Allowance

- Class 3 or 1 License Premium
- Afternoon Shift Premium: applicable for shifts starting after 1:00 PM
Vacation Pay: Start with 4 weeks vacation pay
