Job Overview
We are seeking a Finance Co-op for a 6-month co-op work term to join our Cost Control team in the exciting Broadway Subway Project located in Vancouver, BC. You will join the Broadway Subway Project team, reporting directly to a Senior Cost Controller and working alongside a diverse team of finance and project professionals. As part of the Cost Control department, you will support the financial management of one of BC’s largest infrastructure projects through cost tracking, reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
In this role, you will gain hands-on experience by applying the skills and knowledge acquired through your education in a professional project environment.
You will contribute to a variety of financial and project control activities, including:
- Cost tracking and monitoring of project expenditures
- Budget preparation, forecasting, and cost variance analysis
- Financial reporting and project cost performance analysis
- Invoice review, processing, and reconciliation
- Purchase order and procurement cost support
- Cost coding and maintenance of financial records
- Assisting with month-end close and project reporting
- Data analysis and preparation of cost control dashboards
- Supporting project controls, commercial, and finance teams
- Maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with company policies
- Other finance and cost control responsibilities as assigned
Experience / Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, or related co-op program at a recognized university and available to commit to a 6-month co-op work term.
- Strong interest in project finance, cost control, financial analysis, budgeting, and large-scale infrastructure or construction projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, data analysis, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar financial software) is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
