The Diamond Drill Operator is responsible for operating diamond drilling equipment to extract core samples from underground mineral deposits. This role requires deep technical knowledge of drilling systems, the ability to work safely in remote and rugged environments, and a commitment to meeting production targets. The Driller operates as part of a two-person crew (1 driller + 1 helper) on a 12-hour shift and is expected to manage rig operations, monitor drilling performance, and ensure safe, efficient core extraction. Drill Operators report to the Drill Lead for day-to-day operations.
- Operate diamond drill rigs to extract core samples in accordance with drilling plans and geological direction.
- Monitor drilling parameters (pressure, speed, depth, fluid circulation) and adjust operations to optimize core recovery and minimize equipment wear.
- Manage drill rod changes, bit replacements, and downhole tooling as required.
- Maintain accurate drilling logs including depth, core recovery, rod counts, and shift production (meters drilled).
- Ensure all drilling operations comply with site safety standards, SOPs, and environmental requirements.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on drill rigs, pumps, and support equipment.
- Communicate effectively with the Drill Helper to coordinate safe and efficient rig operations.
- Report drilling progress, issues, and equipment status to the Drill Lead.
- Ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of core samples.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area around the drill site.
- Minimum 3 years of diamond drilling experience in mineral exploration or mining environments.
- Strong understanding of NQ/HQ/BQ rod configurations and core barrel systems.
- Valid Class 1 driver's license — REQUIRED.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, 7 days/week in a remote camp environment on a rotation schedule.
- Physically capable of handling heavy equipment, drill rods, and materials in all weather conditions.
- Strong commitment to safety — demonstrated understanding of workplace safety standards and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a two-person crew.
Pay: $36.00-$40.00 per hour
