Commitment: Tues/Thurs from July 7th, 2026 - August 27th, 2026
Duration: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (4 hrs/week)

The Jane/Finch Community Tennis Association is a community-based not-for-profit organization that is committed to operating within an Anti-Oppressive and trauma-informed framework to engage our community. We aim to work in a manner that is both productive and constructive to enhance individual strengths; and promote positive developmental outcomes for young people. JFCTA utilizes sport as a vehicle to develop the capacity of youth within our organization and community. Our programs are explicitly designed to be low-cost, and barrier-free.
Job Description:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Coach to lead our Summer Tennis League. The right candidate for this position will have experience in delivering a tennis program to children and youth, is skilled in player development, and can create a fun, structured, and inclusive environment. They will also share our values - passionate about making a difference in the community, sharing a love of tennis with people of all skill levels, and developing young coaches.
Head Coach Responsibilities:
The Head Coach will report for the Summer Tennis League on Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm beginning July 7th, 2026, and concluding on August 27th, 2026. The Head Coach will also be required to report for an on-court/in-class training session ahead of the program start date, TBD.
- Create skill/age-appropriate lesson plans focused on skill development, fitness, and sportsmanship
- Supervise assistant coaches and provide guidance and mentorship as needed
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of the organization
- Track player progress and support individual growth and team development
- Work collaboratively with the League Convenor to ensure smooth transitions both on and off court
- Ensure a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Communicate with head coach, colleagues, and parents/guardians in a professional manner to support a positive program experience
Skills and Attributes:
- Experience working with league of 50-80 children and youth in the Jane/Finch or similar community
- Certification through a recognized tennis coaching organization
- Current First Aid/CPR and Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Positive, enthusiastic, and committed to youth development through sport
- Proven experience instructing and demonstrating the fundamentals of tennis
- Ability to organize and lead children and youth
- Punctuality and sufficient time management skills
- Be respectful of the values and code of conduct of the organization
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Be able to communicate and collaborate well in team settings and independently
- Ability to problem solve and adapt to situations (flexible)
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times
