Position Description
Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance, the Industrial Electrician will play a critical role in maintaining and optimising the electrical systems and equipment within our mass timber facility. This position involves the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical components in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial electrical work and experience with automated systems, PLCs, and industrial machinery. This position reports to the Mercer Okanagan, Inc. facility, located at 1675 Maple Street, Okanagan Falls. All maintenance employees are members of the USW local 1-423 Union.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on electrical systems, including motors, controls, and power distribution equipment, to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Install and upgrade electrical systems and components, including wiring, conduit, and industrial control systems, in accordance with local, provincial, and national electrical codes.
- Diagnose and repair electrical issues in production equipment, using testing devices, blueprints, and schematics to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards, company policies, and electrical codes. Participate in safety training and contribute to a culture of safety within the facility.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and installations. Update electrical schematics and documentation as needed.
- Work closely with the maintenance team, production staff, and management to coordinate repairs, upgrades, and maintenance schedules, minimising disruptions to production.
- Suggest and implement improvements to electrical systems and processes to enhance efficiency, safety, and reliability.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an industrial electrician, preferably in a manufacturing or mill environment.
- Red Seal Interprovincial Electrician is required.
- Additional certifications in industrial electrical work or automation systems are considered an asset.
- Experience with PLCs, motor controls, VFDs, and other industrial automation systems.
- Familiarity with mass timber production processes or similar industries is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and standards.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Salary & Benefits
- The hourly wage for this position is $45.87 per the current collective agreement.
