Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Plumbing Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive plumbing cost estimates for commercial and industrial projects. This role requires a strong understanding of construction estimating, project management, and pricing strategies, with an emphasis on collaboration and negotiation skills. The Plumbing Estimator will play a vital role in ensuring project profitability and client satisfaction through precise bid preparation and effective communication with stakeholders.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review blueprints, specifications, and project drawings to determine full scope of plumbing work
- Perform detailed material takeoffs (piping, fixtures, valves, water heaters, drainage systems, etc.)
- Prepare accurate cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
- Solicit and compare quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
- Prepare and submit competitive bids/tenders within deadlines
- Identify project risks, cost overruns, and scheduling constraints during the estimating phase
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required
- Collaborate with project managers, sales staff, and engineers throughout the bidding process
- Maintain and update pricing databases for labor rates and materials
- Track historical project costs to refine future estimate accuracy
- Negotiate pricing with vendors and subcontractors
- Ensure all estimates comply with Ontario Building Code and local plumbing regulations
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines
Requirements / Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in plumbing estimating (or construction estimating in a related trade), with a focus on commercial or industrial projects
- Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, codes, and installation practices (Ontario Building Code familiarity is an asset)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical/mechanical drawings
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Office
- Excellent math, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills for working with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Familiarity with project management principles is a plus
- Journeyman or Master Plumber license/certification is an asset (not always mandatory for an estimator role)
- Valid driver's license
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
Pay: $34.00-$42.00 per hour
