Overview
We are seeking an organized and precision-driven Estimator with electrical field experience to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will analyze project scope and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, prepare accurate estimates, and collaborate with project managers and vendors. This position requires sharp analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and a comprehensive grasp of construction estimating, pricing strategies, and project management.
This is an in-person position where you are required to be at least 3-4 days in the office and available on weekends if necessary. Please ensure you have access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license. We will not be accepting applicants more than 80 km away from the Barrie office.
Responsibilities
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and documents using software such as Accubid to develop comprehensive estimates
- Create rigorous breakdowns of labor, materials, equipment, and overhead for competitive bid submissions
- Review project scope and specifications early to identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunities
- Deliver accurate cost forecasts throughout the project lifecycle
- Partner with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to secure competitive pricing and negotiate favorable contract terms
- Maintain organized records of all estimating data (databases, supplier pricing, past estimate files) for future reference and audits
- Monitor shifting material costs, industry trends, and emerging estimating technologies or techniques to maximize bidding efficiency
- Evaluate project progress and tweak estimates based on scope changes or unforeseen circumstances.
- Track and incorporate all tender addenda to ensure final bids reflect the most current design revisions
Qualifications & Skills
- Field experience as an Electrician or Electrical Apprentice is highly valued (1-5 years)
- Working knowledge of the electrical trade, field installation, and code requirements
- Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC)
- Proficiency in digital takeoff and estimating software (e.g. Accubid, BlueBeam, HeavyBid, or McCormick) – Accubid preferred
- Experience in estimating for commercial and industrial construction projects
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members, clients, and vendors to minimize project costs
- Demonstrates high negotiation skills to coordinate favorable pricing with vendors and subcontractors
- Able to accurately interpret schematics, drawings and specifications with keen attention to detail
- Excellent project management skills – can handle multiple projects simultaneously while keeping track of deadlines
- Highly organized – follows a systematic takeoff process using color codes, standardized assemblies, and file management
- Relevant training or certifications will be considered an asset
- Proven ability to manage tight deadlines and successfully close out competitive bids.
Pay: $24.00-$35.00 per hour
