The Niagara Catholic District School Board invites applications for the position of Casual Educational Assistant. Casual Educational Assistants work on an on call, “as needed” basis, filling in for school Educational Assistant staff who are away or on a leave. Our Educational Assistant staff assist students with special education needs in achieving personal, social, physical and academic development under the direction of the classroom teacher or other professionals.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:
- Work as a team member, collaboratively with the classroom teacher and other school staff
- Support the inclusion of students with diverse learning needs
- Assist in the delivery of instruction to support the students with special education needs achieve the goals and expectations as outlined within the Individual Education Plans (I.E.P.’s)
- Attend to the hygienic, health and safety needs of special students: The following is a list of needs that may be required; however, this list is not limited as the needs depend on the assessment of support required: Toileting, diapering, lifting, catheterization, mobility, dressing, suctioning, feeding, positioning, visual schedules, non-verbal, fine and gross motor skills development, behaviour & anger management, communication support, language support, social support, conflict resolution, life skills, sensory needs, emotional supports, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Behavioural Management System, Seizure Disorder and FM System Support, academic support, keep daily anecdotal and tracking data
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Completion of the Educational Assistant Program from a Community College (preferred) OR equivalent college or university degree in a Child Related field (DSW, Social Work, Social Services, ECE, PSW)
- Willingness and ability to work with teachers with various needs of students in an integrated setting
- Strong interpersonal, communication, written and oral skills.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification an asset.
LOCATIONS:
- Must be able to travel to all locations within the Niagara Catholic District School Board jurisdiction.
HOURS:
- Varies as needed on a casual on call basis. Must be available Monday to Friday for Elementary and Secondary School hours. There is no guarantee of hours, but an employee with full availability could work full-time based on system needs.
RATE OF PAY: $26.91 per hour
