Oakvine Law is a Mississauga based family law practice. We are growing our team and looking for two experienced family law associates to join us in a contract capacity, working in association with the firm. While the role is remote, our team operates with genuine collaboration and support. You will not be working in isolation, but you must be comfortable managing your own caseload independently day to day.
About the Role
We are hiring two contract associates who are on the Legal Aid Ontario roster to handle family law files from intake through resolution. This is a remote position with required in person attendance for court appearances. Candidates should be self directed, organized, and confident managing a full caseload with minimal daily supervision, while still being an active part of a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a full family law caseload from retainer to resolution
- Draft pleadings, motions, financial statements, and other court documents in accordance with the Family Law Rules
- Represent clients at court appearances, case conferences, and settlement conferences
- Negotiate on behalf of clients to reach fair, timely resolutions
- Communicate with clients who are navigating sensitive and often difficult family circumstances, with empathy and professionalism
- Maintain accurate and timely file records in Clio and DivorceMate
- Meet required billable hours of 30 to 35 per week
- Use CaseCenter for court filings and stay current on family law filing requirements
Requirements
- Called to the Bar in Ontario, in good standing
- Currently on the Legal Aid Ontario roster for family law
- Post articling experience in family law required (no articling students or newly called candidates without post call experience)
- Strong legal drafting skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating effectively with a team
- Comfortable and proficient with Clio, DivorceMate, Outlook, and CaseCenter
- Solid working knowledge of the Family Law Rules and Ontario family law filing requirements
- Empathetic, patient, and understanding communication style suited to clients in sensitive family situations
- Reliable availability for required court appearances
