Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide in-home infusions and various support tasks for an adult patient, as she battles various chronic illnesses. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient care, particularly in infusion therapy/IV administration, and will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care regarding infusion treatments. This role is centered around individualized one-to-one care and is very flexible and boasts a slower pace. It also includes a transportation component, to assist patient to and from medical appointments, errands, etc. The ideal candidate would be looking for a fun, flexible, and ever-evolving work environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Administer intravenous (IV) medication in-home, as prescribed by the overseeing physician.
- Monitor patient during infusion treatments, assessing overall condition.
- Maintain a detailed and organized record of infusions and medical support tasks accomplished.
- Assist patient with any tasks in the home as needed (meal support, assistance with light housekeeping tasks that are no longer possible due to illness, patient care during flare-ups of symptoms/times of illness, etc.)
- Provide vehicular transportation to medical appointments, groceries, errands, and miscellaneous tasks.
- Must have a well-maintained vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain professional liability insurance from the Canadian Nurse’s Protective Society (CNPS) or through the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA.)
- Due to the patient being immunocompromised, must be willing to wear mask and gloves in order to uphold high standards of cleanliness and sanitization.
- Must be willing to adhere to a fragrance free, pet free and smoke free environment.
- This is a Calgary based, part-time role and compensation rate will be discussed based on experience.
Required/Relevant Experience
- Successful completion of the RN or LPN programs and minimum 5 years of work experience in the respective fields is required.
- Previous experience in acute care settings is required.
- High levels of proficiency/comfort with IV insertion and administration is mandatory.
- Familiarity with medical terminology relevant to infusion therapy is essential.
- Experience in pain management techniques is a plus.
- A background in home care or assisted living environments will be beneficial for this role.
- The ideal candidate is detail oriented, loves to take initiative to complete tasks, flexible due to unpredictability of medical conditions and various life circumstances, and possesses strong communication skills.
- A background check/security clearance must be completed as the final step in the recruitment process.
