Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Freight Broker to join our logistics team. The ideal candidate will coordinate transportation and shipping activities, manage freight operations, and optimize supply chain processes. This role requires strong communication skills, knowledge of transportation management systems, and a solid understanding of warehouse distribution, procurement, and freight logistics. The Freight Broker will serve as a vital link between shippers and carriers, ensuring efficient order fulfillment and delivery while maintaining high standards of service quality.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage freight shipments across various modes of transportation, ensuring timely delivery and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain relationships with carriers, vendors, and clients to facilitate smooth logistics operations.
- Utilize transportation management systems (TMS), ERP systems, AS400, and warehouse management systems to track shipments, update statuses, and optimize routing.
- Analyze data related to freight costs, demand planning, pricing strategies, and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Oversee shipping & receiving processes, including order picking, packaging, and materials management within warehouse environments.
- Manage procurement activities related to sourcing freight services and negotiating rates with 3PL providers.
- Monitor warehouse distribution activities such as order fulfillment, inventory control, and demand planning to meet customer requirements.
- Implement process improvements to streamline freight operations and reduce costs while maintaining service quality.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies during all shipping activities.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, invoices, and procurement transactions for reporting purposes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in freight brokerage, transportation management systems (TMS), or supply chain logistics.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse distribution, shipping & receiving, procurement experience, and materials management.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as AS400 or similar platforms; experience with warehouse management system (WMS) is preferred.
- Data analysis skills to interpret freight costs, demand planning metrics, and process improvement opportunities.
- Experience with sourcing freight services through 3PL providers or other vendors; knowledge of pricing strategies is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience with e-commerce logistics, order fulfillment processes, packaging requirements, and forklift operation is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for negotiating rates and coordinating with carriers and clients.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments requiring multitasking across shipping & receiving operations and procurement activities.
