The Fibre Splicer will assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses to support the Construction Team.
**The daily starting location for this position is our Ottawa office on Carp Road and has a daily start time of 6:30 am**
This is a unionized position with LiUNA with full union pension and benefits.
YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:
- Splice and test fiber optic cables in all outside plant applications – Mainly buried/underground, potentially aerial, on both newly placed and existing cables
- Analyze test results, troubleshoot and work as a team to fix bad splices
- Interpret and understand placing and splicing work plans
- Read and interpret work plans or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance with the Company’s Health and Safety policy
- Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper or fiber optic telecommunication cables
- Verify existing infrastructure by accessing applicable furniture and documenting results
- Able to climb ladders and a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment
- Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays
- Other duties as required
THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:
- High school diploma or relevant work experience
- Minimum of 2 years of Fibre Splicing experience
- Coax/Coax Activation experience is an asset
- Power Supply Activation / ROLT experience is an asset
- Able to complete the necessary training for First Aid, Confined Spaces and Working at Heights
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to interpret placing and splicing plans
- Competency in OTDR / Power Meters / VFL and other testing protocols
- Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team
- Must be able to speak, read and write English
- Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements
- Holds valid G license driver’s license and a good driver’s abstract
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and a clean driver’s abstract
