Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Yard & Equipment Maintenance Hand to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining our yard, light repairs to our petroleum trailers, stationary tanks and trucks. Ensuring that all equipment meets operational and safety standards. You will also support the daily yard operations that include loading trucks and trailers, assist in managing the fleet and ensuring it runs efficiently. Key Responsibilities
Mechanics & Repairs:
- Perform light preventive maintenance and repair work on petroleum trailers, including greasing, pumps, hoses, valve and seal replacments.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform necessary repairs in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
- Inspect trailers for leaks, structural integrity, and other safety concerns, ensuring compliance with TC and TDG regulations.
- Work with our team to schedule regular PM and annual inspections with our preferred shops.
Yard Operations:
- Assist with the loading, unloading, and positioning of petroleum trailers in the yard.
- Ensure that all equipment is properly stored, cleaned, and ready for deployment.
- Grease Trailers, trucks and service pumps.
- Manage onsite cardlock system and inventory.
- Manage drum inventory and safety storage of drums.
- Maintain accurate logs of inspections, maintenance, and repairs for each unit.
- Monitor fuel levels, tire conditions, and other essential trailer equipment to ensure all units are in optimal working condition.
Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all company and industry safety standards and protocols, especially when dealing with hazardous materials.
- Ensure trailers are prepared for annual inspections, performing necessary maintenance and record keeping to stay compliant.
- Conduct routine safety checks and report any issues that require immediate attention.
General Yard Support:
- Assist with general yard duties, including organizing equipment, tools, and materials.
- Provide support to the drivers for any other maintenance or operational needs as required.
- Accept deliveries.
- Manage yard conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a mechanic, with a focus on trailer and heavy-duty equipment maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with trucks and petroleum trailers, including their mechanical systems and maintenance requirements.
- Knowledge of TC and TDG regulations, safety standards, and fuel tank integrity protocols.
- Ability to troubleshoot brakes, suspension, fuel pumps, and hydraulics.
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair general mechanical issues efficiently.
- Ability to safely operate yard equipment (e.g., forklifts, yard trucks).
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to safety and compliance.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Class 1 is favorable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diesel mechanic certification or equivalent training.
- Experience with fleet management systems or software for tracking maintenance and inspections.
- Hazardous materials handling training (HAZMAT, TDG).
- Basic knowledge of petroleum products and related safety handling procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 40 lbs).
- Standing, bending, and working in tight spaces as required by trailer maintenance tasks.
