Position Overview
A Calgary-based oil and gas company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee its accounting and finance functions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, taxation, audit coordination, regulatory compliance, internal controls, and financial analysis. This role will work closely with executive management, the Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors to provide accurate financial information and business insights that support decision-making.
The ideal candidate will be a CPA with senior finance leadership experience, strong public-company reporting knowledge, and a solid background in the oil and gas industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with IFRS and applicable public-company requirements.
- Support HKEX reporting and disclosure obligations.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial modelling.
- Coordinate external audits, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to management.
- Maintain effective internal controls and accounting policies.
- Lead and develop the finance team.
- Work with external auditors, advisors, and professional service providers.
Qualifications
- CPA designation required.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- More than 10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience.
- Experience as a Financial Controller, Corporate Controller, Vice President of Finance, or in a similar senior finance role.
- Strong oil and gas industry experience.
- Public-company reporting experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, taxation, budgeting, forecasting, and auditing.
- Experience working with senior management, Audit Committees, and Boards of Directors.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with HKEX-listed or other publicly listed companies.
- Knowledge of HKEX reporting requirements.
- Mandarin or Cantonese language skills are considered an asset.
