Position Summary
Salem Manor Nursing Home is seeking compassionate and reliable Health Care Aide (HCAs) to join our team. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), the HCA provides personal care and support to residents, promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life in an assisted living environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support mobility, transfers, and repositioning using safe lifting techniques
- Observe and report changes in residents’ condition to nursing staff
- Assist with feeding and hydration following care plans
- Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful environment
- Build positive relationships with residents and families
- Follow infection prevention and control practices
- Document care provided in accordance with organizational standards
Qualifications & Requirements
- Completion of a recognized Health Care Aide program
- Current and Active registration with the CLHA without condition is mandatory
- Experience in Assisted Living or Long-Term Care preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically able to meet the demands of the role
- Flexibility to work various shifts including days, evenings, or weekends as needed
Duties
- Assist residents with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance
- Support residents with medication administration following prescribed protocols
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with feeding if necessary
- Provide companionship and emotional support to seniors and individuals with disabilities
- Help with light housekeeping duties including cleaning and maintaining a safe environment
- Monitor residents’ health status and report any changes or concerns to healthcare professionals
- Support residents with activities of daily living in assisted living, nursing homes, or home care settings
- Assist with dementia care, hospice care, or working with individuals experiencing cognitive decline
- Perform heavy lifting when necessary for transfers or mobility assistance
