We are seeking a Director of Finance, for a full-time, permanent position, based in a rural community near High Level, Alberta. This position will be an on-site role.

SUMMARY:
The Director of Finance is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of financial, administrative, and risk management functions. This role develops and implements financial and operational strategies, monitors internal control systems, provides leadership to the Finance and Accounting teams, and ensures the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting to organizational leadership and key stakeholders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
- In collaboration with the Executive Team, lead financial planning aligned with objectives and goals.
- Partner with the Executive Team to create and implement business objectives.
- Develop and execute multiyear financial strategies that align with business priorities.
- Facilitate financial discussions and presentations with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure policies and procedures are compliant with professional standards and provincial and federal regulatory requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and improve systems, procedures, reports, and forms related to fiscal management.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and conduct performance reviews for the Finance and Accounting teams.
- Provide coaching, guidance and mentorship to the Finance and Accounting teams.
Accounting & Finance
- Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasting, and billings.
- Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to ensure financial integrity.
- Oversee the accounting, financial reporting, analysis, and preparation of consolidated financial statements, including schedules for tax compliance.
- Determine and manage financial analytics in alignment with objectives.
- Monitor financial performance by analyzing data and results and initiate correct accounting and financial principles to minimize risk and variances.
- Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to stakeholders, ensuring financial reports balance with the trial balance and that all supporting documentation is readily available upon request.
- Provide financial analysis statements including monthly balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and actual budget.
- Review and revise financial statements to align with business requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure accuracy and timely reporting of financial information to appropriate groups.
- Identify financial, operational, and strategic risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Lead the annual audit processes, including preparation of documentation and serving as the liaison with auditors.
- Conduct or delegate internal audits and checks as needed.
- Maintain overtime logs for the Finance and Accounting Teams and notify the Financial Controller of any concerns.
- Ensure the payroll processing system provides timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance or Business Administration.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent.
- Seven to ten (7-10) years in a senior finance, leadership, accounting and auditing role.
- Five (5) years in a leadership role, with experience leading and coaching a team.
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

Other Requirements
- Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check.
- Valid Drivers License (Class 5) with a clean driver abstract.
- Must be willing to live in-community
- Occasional travel required. Must be willing to travel for training purposes and/or meetings.
- Occasional overtime may be required, including the availability to work evenings and weekends during periods of operational necessity and emergencies.
