Job Description
English Matters is a small, dedicated ESL tutoring service perfect for those looking for part-time work. Typically, an English Matters tutor will spend one to four hours a week giving tailored ESL lessons to the members of a family at their home or office. Tutors work independently, on a one-year contract and are responsible for lesson plans, materials and quarterly updates. There is no set curriculum to follow as lessons will be customized for the interests and needs of the individual students. This is pleasant, part-time work, at $35/hr with two weeks off at Christmas and one more week during the year. Teachers are paid monthly by eTransfer.
We have a position available immediately needing a tutor in Sharon/East Gwillimbury (IN PERSON) to help children after school with ESL for one hour time periods each on a weekday evening of your choice. Teachers work independently and prepare student evaluations 4 times a year for the office based on the Canadian Language Benchmarking system. Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Teaching certificate
- 5+ years of experience
- Live or work within 20 minutes commute of students home
- Excellent English
- Able to commit to 1 year contract or longer
- Punctual, reliable and able to work well independently
- Ability to plan tailored lessons in advance
- Proven to go the extra mile for students in need
- Experience working with children, business people
- Having learned another language as an adult is an asset
