Job Summary
M.A.R.S. Metal and Recycling Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Manager to oversee daily operations at our scrap metal recycling facility. The Manager will lead the team, ensure safe and efficient yard operations, maintain excellent customer service, and help achieve production and business goals. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Duties
- Supervise and support daily yard and recycling operations.
- Schedule, train, and oversee employees to ensure productivity and safety.
- Enforce company policies and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Coordinate the receiving, sorting, processing, and shipment of scrap metal.
- Monitor inventory, equipment, and operational performance.
- Assist customers and maintain professional customer service standards.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and report repair needs.
- Ensure the yard remains clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.
- Complete operational reports, records, and other administrative tasks.
- Work with ownership to improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
- Resolve employee and customer concerns in a professional manner.
- Perform other management duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Proven supervising or team management experience within retail or related industries
- Strong negotiation skills with vendors and suppliers to optimize purchasing terms
- Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse customer needs effectively
- Demonstrated expertise in retail sales management, including pricing strategies and sales techniques
- Experience with cash handling, cashiering systems (POS), bookkeeping, and basic math skills for financial accuracy
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a busy environment
- Effective communication skills—both verbal and written—to lead teams and engage customers confidently
- Knowledge of marketing strategies to promote store promotions and enhance customer engagement
- Ability to manage time effectively while balancing multiple responsibilities such as training & development initiatives and administrative tasks
- Familiarity with retail software systems for inventory control, payroll processing, and sales reporting is preferred
Qualifications
- Previous management or supervisory experience in recycling, manufacturing, construction, warehousing, or a related industrial environment is preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced workplace.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
- Proficiency with basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office is an asset.
- Forklift or heavy equipment experience is an asset.
- Valid driver's licence is preferred.
