Position Summary
The Sault Youth Soccer Club (SYSC) is seeking a creative, organized, and motivated Communications and Community Engagement Intern to support the growth of the club’s communications, social media, branding, fundraising, sponsorship, and community engagement initiatives.
This role will work closely with the club’s:
- President
- Director of Media & Sponsorships
- Technical Director
- Club Administration
- Coaching staff and volunteers
The successful candidate will help implement SYSC’s communications strategy, including content creation, photography/video, social media management, website updates, fundraising promotion, sponsor engagement, and community storytelling.
This is an exciting opportunity to help build one of Northern Ontario’s leading grassroots and competitive soccer brands.

- Must be a new entrant into the workforce, transitioning to a new career, or currently unemployed or underemployed and entering a new field
- Must not have previously participated in an NOHFC-funded internship under the 2020 Mandate
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
- Must, upon hiring, reside in the Northern Ontario community in which they are employed

Key Responsibilities
Social Media & Content Creation
- Assist with day-to-day management of SYSC social media accounts
- Create and schedule posts using approved club templates
- Capture and organize photos/video from games, tournaments, practices, and events
- Assist with player, coach, volunteer, and alumni spotlight features
- Support implementation of the club’s 12-month communications calendar
Graphic Design & Branding
Use club templates to create:
- Game day graphics
- Match result posts
- Player spotlights
- Registration announcements
- Sponsor thank-you posts
- Community event promotions
- Ensure consistent branding across all platforms
Website & Communications
- Assist with website updates and news posts
- Support registration and event communications
- Help prepare media releases and promotional materials
- Assist with sponsor recognition initiatives
Fundraising & Sponsorship Support
- Assist with promotion of fundraising campaigns and community initiatives
- Support donor recognition and sponsor appreciation initiatives
Help create promotional materials for:
- Connor Dunn Memorial Fund
- Community fundraising campaigns
- Sponsorship opportunities
- Special events and tournaments
- Assist with storytelling and social media campaigns that support fundraising efforts
- Help strengthen community partnerships through digital engagement and promotion
Community Engagement
Support promotion of:
- Connor Dunn Memorial Fund
- Community events
- Volunteer recruitment
- Coach and referee development
- Alumni and player pathway stories
Qualifications
Ideal candidates may have experience or education in:
- Communications
- Marketing
- Graphic Design
- Digital Media
- Photography/Videography
- Sport Management
- Journalism
- Public Relations
Preferred skills:
- Canva or graphic design software experience
- Social media knowledge (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Photography/video editing experience is an asset
- Interest in sports and community engagement

Position Details

- Hours: 35 hours per week
- Compensation: $18.50 per hour
- Reports to: Club Administrator
- Location: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (in-person; attendance at games, tournaments, and events occasionally required)
