About the role.
McCain Foods (Canada) has an immediate opening for a Shift Manager at our Carberry, Manitoba Food Processing Plant. Under the direction of the Production Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible to organize, schedule, monitor, and audit production line activities to ensure conformance to established requirements regarding cost, quality, productivity, safety (both personnel and product), sanitation, and employee competence. Provide information and follow-up on overall product conditions (meeting or not meeting specifications, problem areas with equipment, specifications, packaging supplies, raw product challenges, pack, and line schedule, etc.) to Supervisors and operators for optimum efficiency. Ensure uniform application and interpretation of established SOPs, specifications, shift-to-shift congruency, and assist with the coordination of employee training.
This position will work 12-hour shifts, on a rotating schedule that includes, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
What you’ll be doing.
- Formulate plans and objectives for departmental operations.

Maintain high product quality that meets or exceeds customer expectations.

Ensure that adequate training in areas of management skills are provided for Shift Supervisors.

Direct and consult with Supervisors on all process attributes, including time and temperature for equipment set up, raw product blends for color, defects and solids, personnel staffing, equipment capability and line capacity.

Responsible for investigation and follow up of all quality complaints, possible product problems (including product safety), sanitation inspection problems, and cost variance problems.

Responsible for all preparation, distribution, follow up and problem investigation on factory and corporate reports.

Coordinate plant activities to obtain maximum efficiency for total facility.

Create an environment that encourages Safety in your department.

As a member of the leadership team, your participation in the continuous improvement process is expected. This includes taking an active role in process improvement initiatives, employee training, utilization of SPC for process improvement and upgrading your current skill base.

Must be capable of revising and updating measurement requirements and procedures.

Must be a self-starter and be able to handle problems independently – proactive.

Must be able to handle change, promote positive and creative work environments.

Must have knowledge and skills with personnel development.

Must possess management skills, including time management, cost management and leadership skills; continuous cost improvement (effective capital improvements), process optimization, and factory-to-factory consistencies (cross company coordination and communication).

Must take on responsibilities to expand scope of job as necessary.
What you’ll need to be successful.
- Education: The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Operations or related.

3 to 5 years related experience in a food processing plant.
- Prior supervisory experience is a must.

Can communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written work

Demonstrated proficiency in leading, team building.
- Strong technical expertise and problem-solving skills

Strong analytical skills (e.g., root cause analysis and statistical analysis)
- Strong interpersonal skills

Displays vision and demonstrates both personal and organizational sensitivity.
- Results-oriented, team player with critical thinking abilities, communication skills, as well as strong problem-solving abilities
- Strong computer skills would be an asset.

Compensation Package: $81,600.00 - $108,900.00 . CAD annually + Bonus Eligibility
