Our client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Engineering Technician to join an exciting manufacturing transformation project in Northern Ontario.
This is a rare opportunity to become part of a facility that is undergoing a major transition. Historically a paper manufacturing operation, the site has secured significant federal and provincial funding and is being redeveloped into a modern MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) manufacturing facility. The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manufacturing Services Manager, you will play a key role in supporting plant operations, equipment reliability, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading root cause investigations and implementing effective solutions to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Managing and supporting capital projects from planning through execution and commissioning.
- Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize profitability.
- Providing technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
- Conducting engineering studies and preparing technical recommendations.
- Supporting the procurement and specification of equipment and spare parts.
- Ensuring engineering activities comply with environmental regulations, company standards, and industry best practices.
- Promoting a strong health and safety culture across the facility.
- Working collaboratively within a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Participating in weekend duty coverage as required.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma.
- 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, maintenance, reliability, or project engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing engineering projects and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Eligibility for registration, or current registration, with a Canadian Professional Engineering Association is considered an asset.
- Fluent English communication skills; French is considered an asset.
