Job Summary
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, Financial Wellbeing and Poverty Reduction, the Financial Empowerment Facilitator delivers financial education and one-on-one support to low-income and underserved residents in Peel. The role helps clients improve financial well-being by providing financial coaching, facilitating workshops, connecting clients to benefits and community resources, and supporting program outreach, documentation, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
· Deliver financial education workshops on budgeting, banking, saving, credit, debt management, fraud prevention, and accessing benefits.
· Provide one-on-one financial coaching, goal setting, resource navigation, and follow-up support.
· Assist clients in accessing financial assistance programs, benefits, and community resources, including the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP).
· Promote financial empowerment services through community outreach, presentations, and partnerships.
· Build and maintain referral relationships with community agencies and internal DBNC programs.
· Maintain accurate client records, service data, and reports in accordance with funder and organizational requirements.
· Support program administration, including scheduling, workshop preparation, and maintaining program materials.
· Ensure client confidentiality and comply with DBNC policies, privacy standards, and health and safety procedures.
· Participate in team meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Skills/Knowledge/Experience)
Required Education and Experience
Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in social services, community development, adult education, financial empowerment, business, finance, psychology, social work or a related field; an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience may be considered.
At least two years of relevant experience in community service delivery, financial empowerment, adult education, coaching, case navigation, outreach or non-profit programs.
Experience working with low-income, newcomer, racialized, senior or otherwise underserved communities.
Experience facilitating workshops, delivering presentations, supporting clients one-on-one and maintaining accurate program records.
Required Knowledge and Competencies
Knowledge of poverty, financial insecurity, benefits access, utility affordability, food insecurity, housing instability and related social determinants of health.
Strong facilitation skills grounded in adult-learning principles.
Strong client-service, active listening, conflict de-escalation, problem-solving and referral skills.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality and good judgment when supporting vulnerable clients.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear notes, reports and presentations.
Strong organization, time management, follow-up and ability to meet multiple deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and ability to learn approved case-management, reporting and collaboration systems.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, accessibility, anti-racism, anti-oppression and respectful service.
Assets
Financial literacy, financial coaching or financial empowerment training certificate.
Training in trauma-informed practice, motivational interviewing, conflict resolution, mental health first aid, privacy or occupational health and safety.
Ability to communicate in a language commonly used by DBNC clients.
