As a Design Manager, you are responsible for leading multidisciplinary design teams through the pursuit, design development and construction support phases of a project. The Design Manager serves as the primary technical liaison between the owner, consultants, EllisDon project team and trade partners, ensuring the design is coordinated, constructible, compliant and aligned with the project's budget, schedule and quality objectives.
You as a Design Manager will be responsible for:
Management of the development of our design build proposals for design build projects, as well as any alternative delivery model pursuits
Management of the design team in developing compliant and cost effective, creative solutions in response to RFP requirements including coordination or all disciplines.
Analysis of project requirements and development of a strategy focused on winning the opportunity.
Identify, communicate and proactively manage design risks, assumptions, constraints and opportunities throughout pursuit and project execution.
Leading the development of submissions and presentations for the RFP period in conjunction with the design team; review and assessment of all RFP documentation and requirements.
Development and coordination of documentation of the proposed design to support estimating the project cost.
Development of technical submission including design and construction narratives and drawing package
Development of project schedule and project logistic plans based on requirements and proposed design in coordination with the proposed project execution team.
Collaborate with estimating, operations and trade partners to ensure the proposed design is practical, cost-effective and constructible.
Ongoing development of relationships with partner consultants and design build trade contractors
Work collaboratively in a team environment with our mechanical and electrical design managers, project estimators, capital development director, superintendents, marketing team, legal team, and facilities management team
Facilitate design risk workshops and implement mitigation strategies to support cost, schedule and project objectives.
Management of the design development process in accordance with the project requirements and specifications. Quickly resolving any outstanding compliance issues with the support of the project team
Drive design development to ensure alignment with the approved budget, schedule, procurement strategy and constructability objectives.
Serve as the primary technical liaison between the owner, consultants, authorities having jurisdiction, trade partners and the EllisDon project team throughout design development and construction support.
Coordination of our design partners to ensure all disciplines are engaged and executing as a cohesive and effective team.
Manage consultant performance, including scope, schedule, deliverables and quality to ensure project objectives are achieved.
Coordinates and engages with the EllisDon project team to ensure the design develops in line with our estimate, schedule, procurement strategy and implements trade feedback where required.
Lead value engineering and design optimization initiatives to align the proposed design with project budget, schedule and performance objectives.
Is this the right role for you?
You have eight to ten years of Design Management experience, including experience with alternative delivery models
You have a working knowledge of construction scopes and activities, scheduling, project management and contract software
You have the ability to confidently mentor and delegate to a large team while developing and maintaining strong client relations
Demonstrated understanding of design risk management, constructability and value engineering principles.
Strong understanding of consultant coordination, procurement planning and multidisciplinary project delivery.
Experience delivering projects within regulated or security-sensitive environments (including defence, healthcare, utilities, or federal facilities) is considered an asset.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance required for assigned projects.
Experience working under controlled information or security protocols is considered an asset.
Salary range for this role is $105,000-$130,000 CAD
