Start a division. Run it your way. Build something that's yours.
J&D Western Electric is a growing commercial and residential electrical contractor based in Grande Prairie, now in our third year and expanding fast. We're launching a brand-new fire alarm division, and we're looking for a Fire Alarm Lead / Supervisor to start it, shape it, and run it.
This is a ground-floor leadership role — not a slot-in-and-follow-orders job. You'll own the division: building the processes, growing the work, mentoring techs as we scale, and setting the standard for how J&D does fire alarm. You'll kick things off leading the fire alarm scope on a 160-unit multi-residential apartment build, with a strong pipeline of work behind it.
If you've ever wanted to run your own division with a company that will back you — the tools, the support, and the room to grow it — this is that opportunity.
What you'll do:
- Establish and lead J&D's new fire alarm division from day one
- Supervise and run the fire alarm scope on a 160-unit apartment project and future work
- Install, verify, inspect, test, and service fire alarm systems
- Perform verifications to CAN/ULC-S537 and inspection/testing to CAN/ULC-S536
- Work across major panel platforms (Mircom, Edwards/EST, Notifier, Simplex, etc.)
- Coordinate with general contractors, AHJs, and our electrical crews
- Help build pricing, standards, and the division's growth strategy
- Mentor and lead techs as the team grows
What you bring:
- CFAA (Canadian Fire Alarm Association) certification — required or strong asset
- Hands-on fire alarm verification, service, and supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of the Alberta Building Code, National Fire Code, and CEC
- Journeyman Electrician ticket a strong asset
- A leader's mindset — you can build and run, not just follow
- Valid driver's license
What we offer:
- Company vehicle for the right fit
- Ground-floor leadership of a brand-new division — grow it your way
- Competitive wages based on experience
- Steady, high-quality commercial and residential work
- A company that invests in its people and its systems

Two quick calls before you paste it in:
The CFAA line still says "required or strong asset" — pick one. If you'd take a sharp journeyman and help them get certified, I'll soften it; if it's a must-have, I'll make it firm.
The vehicle line — I wrote it as "for the right fit," matching your words. If it's a definite for this role, we could state it flat out ("Company vehicle provided"), which reads even stronger to a supervisor-level candidate.
Want me to firm up either of those, or trim this down? Indeed descriptions can run long, but some folks skim — I can cut a tighter version if you'd like options.
Let me don't put in that they'll own the division. They'll be in charge of running the division and expect it to perform and teach people within the division that we hire to help do that.
Good call — clearer expectation, less "it's yours to own." Here's the reworked version. I adjusted the opening and the responsibilities so it reads as running and being accountable for the division and developing the people in it, not owning it.
Lead a division. Make it perform. Build the team behind it.
