Job Overview We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and organized Bookkeeper to join our team. The Bookkeeper is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions for multiple companies, ensuring accurate financial records, completing month-end processes, and supporting financial reporting. This role also oversees accounting for our property management operations, including rental income and owner reporting. The ideal candidate is highly organized, works independently, and is committed to accuracy and continuous process improvement. Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable: Process invoices, ensure timely payments, and resolve vendor discrepancies.
- Accounts Receivable: Manage customer invoicing, collections, and outstanding balances, including rental income for property management.
- Property Management Accounting: Record rental income, reconcile tenant accounts, prepare owner statements, and generate property management financial reports.
- Reconciliations: Complete monthly bank, credit card, loan, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Month-End & Year-End: Prepare journal entries, complete month-end procedures, assist with year-end working papers, and support external accountants.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and management reports.
- Government Reporting: Process and prepare HST/GST returns, and other government filings as required.
- General Ledger: Maintain accurate financial records and ensure transactions are properly recorded.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures and maintain strong internal controls.
- Team Support: Provide guidance and support to junior accounting and administrative staff.
- Other Duties: Maintain organized financial records and perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a senior role.
- Experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
- Experience with property management accounting is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, payroll, and government remittances.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online experience preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
