Penticton and District Society for Community Living (PDSCL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting people with diverse abilities in Penticton and surrounding communities. We provide support and services for people with intellectual disabilities, seniors, low-income adults, families, and persons facing homelessness.
PDSCL is looking for a Permanent Part Time Vocational Counsellor. The fixed weekly hours for this position are twenty (20) hours per week. The hours are carried out in accordance with the needs of the clients.
The Vocational Counsellor is responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating training plans in various work settings designed to meet clients' vocational, social, and daily living goals.
Education and Experience Requirement:
- Minimum of a diploma or certificate in a related human or social service field or recreation course
- One (1) year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Other Employment Requirements:
- Valid CPR/First Aid
- Valid Food Safe Certificate
- Valid Class 4 Unrestricted License
- Satisfactory criminal record check- working with vulnerable adults
- Medical clearance for fitness to work and TB Skin Test
Other Qualifications and Abilities:
The ability to effectively assess clients' interests, skills, abilities, and readiness related to obtaining and retaining employment and identify barriers to employment. The ability to conduct group sessions such as information sessions, workshops, and job-finding clubs. Computer skills and experience are required. Locate employers in local businesses, industries, and community agencies that match clients' interests, skills and abilities. Encourages employers to participate in placements. Ability to support individuals in finding and maintaining organizational and community-based employment. Other job-related skills include: Interpersonal skills, communication skills, analyzing and judgment ability, physical capabilities, initiative/ independence, honesty, work standards, team orientation, stress tolerance and acceptance of working conditions.
