Royal Canadian Military Institute Services (RCMIS) is renowned for its academic round tables, Canadian military library, museum collections, and social programs. Along with its Institute programs, RCMIS also houses a member services branch within its organization where members can enjoy dining, social events, meetings, conferences, fitness, and bedroom facilities.
Position Summary
RCMIS is seeking energetic multi-tasker to take on the role of Porter. Shifts may be scheduled on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business demand. The Porter will perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Is a key player on our events services team.
- Reads and interprets banquet event orders and sets room according to BEO specifications.
- Handles equipment with care, maintains a clean storage area and ensures all equipment is in good repair.
- Strong understanding of AV technology (ex. sound systems, laptop computers, LCD projectors, etc.).
- Strong problem solver – ability to troubleshoot technical issues encountered by a member or client.
- Assists members or clients in any function or meeting room as required.
- Has a thorough knowledge of emergency and life safety procedures, and follows all key control procedures.
- Cross-trained in other areas to help subsidize hours when event services are slower.
Job Requirements:
- Prior hospitality experience is an asset.
- Physical Requirements include: bending, standing, moving tables, chairs, and equipment, using stairs, an elevator and walking in a multi-level building on a daily basis.
- Basic math and language skills, including the ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing).
- Ability to multitask, reason, problem-solve and pay attention to detail are desirable traits.
- Flexible hours and availability: days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs or more.
