Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Toronto, ON. The Civil/Commercial Litigation Lawyer will handle a wide array of litigation matters, including drafting pleadings, conducting legal research, preparing motions, and representing clients in court. The lawyer will also collaborate with clients, assist with case strategy, and ensure timely submission of legal documents.
Qualifications
Strong expertise in Law covering areas such as civil and commercial litigation.
Must have extensive litigation experience including: attending motions, examinations for discoveries, mediations, etc.
Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating Commercial Contracts.
Deep understanding of Legal Issues arising from corporate or commercial disputes.
Ability to provide practical and accurate legal advice to clients on matters related to litigation and compliance.
Exceptional written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, and a license to practice law in Ontario.
Requirements:
Preparation of documents, including pleadings, motion records, trial records, settlement agreements
Preparation and attendance at Examinations for Discoveries, case conferences, mediations, settlement conferences, and other proceedings as required
Attendance at Superior Court for motions
Legal research
Assistance in trial preparation and during trial
File management
Meet limitation dates and deadlines
Meet billing targets (fees, billable and billed hours)
Participate directly in consultation and negotiations sessions with clients, third parties, counsel, etc.
Comply with Rules of Civil Procedure requirements
Solid understanding of the legal process and its rules
Able to take responsibility for and manage files
Adept at handling a high volume of work
Proven ability to work under pressure
Excellent client service / positive relationships with clients and colleagues

Salary: The selected candidate will have the option of either a competitive, annual salary or a commission- based salary (i.e. a percentage of billables collected)
